Breaking: Iran slams terror attack in Pakistan, says it stands with Pakistan against terrorism

Iran has denounced a Wednesday terrorist attack at the parking area of the Serena Hotel in the capital of Balochistan Province, Pakistan, saying Tehran stands with Islamabad against terrorism.

In a statement on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh described the attack as a source of “deep concern.”

He also said that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands with the government and people of Pakistan in their fight against terrorism.

At least four people were killed and several others wounded after a powerful car bomb exploded at a luxury hotel, located in the southwestern city of Quetta, where the Chinese ambassador to the country was reportedly staying.

“A car that was full of explosives exploded in the hotel,” said Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, adding, “At least four people have been killed and 12 others were injured.”

Ahmad said China’s envoy was not there when the bomb exploded and Provincial Home Minister Ziaullah Lango said the ambassador was fine.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) later claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.

“It was a suicide attack in which our suicide bomber used his explosives-filled car in the hotel,” a spokesman for the terrorist group wrote in a text message to a Reuters reporter.

Pakistan’s restive and mineral-rich Balochistan Province is rife with violence and has been the scene of several bomb and gun attacks over the past years.
