Breaking: Boris Johnson appears bullish on lockdown exit but admits nothing is ‘guaranteed’

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has given his most optimistic briefing on the pandemic in months by predicting the “irreversible” easing of coronavirus restrictions in the weeks and months ahead.

Speaking at a Downing Street news conference, Johnson praised the “astonishing efforts” of “everyone involved” in the delivery of the vaccination program after the government allegedly met its target of delivering the first dose of the vaccine to 15 million vulnerable people across the UK.

Describing the vaccine rollout as “unprecedented”, the PM expressed hope the current lockdown will prove to be the “last”.

Johnson used today’s press conference (February 15) to promote his so-called “roadmap” out of the third and what he has expressly hoped to be the “last” national lockdown in England.

On the issue of uncertainty, Johnson admitted he could not give “an absolute cast iron guarantee” about the course of the pandemic and presumably whether despite his express wishes he might be forced to order a fourth national lockdown in the near future.

The PM’s press conference came on the heels of news that a further 230 people died in the UK of coronavirus-related complications in the past 24 hours.

Additionally, 9,765 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the same period.
