Breaking: US wants ‘longer, stronger’ deal with Iran, US secretary of state-designate claims

The United States will seek a “longer and stronger” deal with Iran under future President Joe Biden, secretary of state-designate claims.

According to Press TV, Antony Blinken made the comments before US lawmakers on Tuesday, as the Biden team was preparing to gain power in the White House.

“We would use that as a platform with our allies and partners, who would once again be on the same side with us, to seek a longer and stronger agreement,” he said.

Meanwhile, more accusations, threats and sanctions were being imposed on Iran by the Trump administration and hawkish Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Disregarding that and the fact the US has unilaterally withdrawn from the internationally recognized Iran nuclear deal, Blinken suggested that Tehran should come back into “compliance,” in which case “we would too.”

The Justice Department, meanwhile, charged an Iranian professor based in the US on baseless claims of working for Iran.

Kaveh Afrasiabi, an author and political scientist from Boston, was accused of efforts “to paint an untruthfully positive picture of the [Iranian] nation.”

US Deputy Secretary of state-designate, Wendy Sherman, acknowledged tin an interview with a Boston news show last month that the US has lost its “credibility” in negotiating with Tehran.

“We’re going to work hard at this, because we have lost credibility, we are seen as weaker” after Trump, said Sherman, who was former President Barack Obama’s lead negotiator for the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

In response to the Trump administration’s aggression, Tehran has slapped sanctions on the lame-duck president, Pompeo as well as several current and former members of the administration for their role in terrorist and inhumane actions against Iran and its citizens.
