    His nick name is ‘komol’. Full name is Ziaur Rahman. He is born on 19 january 1936, in village of bagbari under gabtali thana of Bogra District. His father’s name is Mansur Rahman and mother’s name is Jahanara Khatun (Rani). Father was a chemist and Mother was a housewife and musician. He was the second in five brothers.  Most of the childhood of Ziaur Rahman in Park Circus, Calcutta for father’s job. His school life started in ‘Hair School, Calcutta. When World War2 began, he returned to bagbari in gabtali of bogra and studied there for two years. After returning to Calcutta by the parent’s wishes in 1944 and started studying there again. When the country was partitioned in 1947, he went to Karachi with his family for his father’s job. 0I july in 1948, he was admitted to class seven in Karachi Academy School (at present name is Tayeb Ali Khalvi Academy) and passed the matriculation examination in 1952 from this school. After matriculation he was admitted to D.j. college in Karachi. His dream was to be doctor. But in 1953, he started his career as an Officer Cadet by joining the Pakistan Military Academy and obtained ‘commando training’ in this year. When ‘pak-india War’ started in 1965, Ziaur Rahman became the commander of a battalion company in the ‘East Bengle Regiment’ in the battle of the Khemkaran Rannangan. He won the war and For this won the second highest gallantly medel in Pakistan army. In april 1969, he was promoted to the Major in the army. He went to West Germany for higher training. He returned from Germany  in 1970 and was transferred to Chittagong in September. He was appointed in the Second-in-command’ of the eight battalion of the East Bengle Regiment.

    ……….Then in the historic March of 1971. On the night of 25 March, came down to the darkness of the nation. Maj. ZIAUR RAHMAN came to light in the dark. He declared independence from Kalurghat Radio center on 26 March 1971 and fought in sector-1 himself. After, ‘Z-Force’ wrestled with war in 7 july. When he was victorious in the war, he joint in the previous rank and the then politicians run the country. Ziaur Rahman was conferred the tille of “Bir Uttam” for his contribution in war of liberation. 


    At that time the famine of the country’s Government-MP, leaders and workers was plagued by corruption and looting and then the Awami League Government withdrew from the original consciousness of the war of liberation and dissolved all political parties including their own party to secure the constitutional regime and closed all the magazines without 4 libraries loyl to them. At the same time 7 june 1975, amending the constitution 0f 117(A), only one political party in the country formed BAKSAL and through the BAKSAL the country’s governing council. Then came down on the horrors of 15 August 1975 . As a result, anarchy arose in the country.

     …….ZIAUR RAHMAN was appointed as the army chief on 25 August and saw the instability in the next Sheikh Mujib’s rule. After the revolution on 07 th November, the sepoy-massacre defeated Khaled Mosharraf’s leaders and liberated ZIAUR RAHMAN from captivity and he was declared ‘Dputy Chief Martial Law Administrator. Then, on 29 November 1976, Ziaur Rahman was appointed as the chief General of the party. He took the responsibility of the president from justice Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem on 21 april 1977. Since then, President ZIAUR RAHMAN has estabilished a foundation of Democracy and development. Agriculture, Industry, Education, Commerce, Science, Technology, Technical, politics, Economics, International-there is no sector that ZIAUR RAHMAN’s hand is not there within a short time.

    # Ziaur Rahman was the procliamer of great freedom and liberation war of Bangladesh.

    # 40 days after the President took office, Ziaur Rahman voted the first ‘yes-no’ in the independent country-which was sowing the seeds of democracy and winning 99% of the votes he won. 

    # President Shaheed ZIAUR RAHMAN left the country of Sheikh Mujib where people’s rights, demeanor, democracy, exile, disorderly and peaceless and one party rule introduced the BAKSAL and introduced multi-party Democracy. As a result, Awami Leage also got the chance to again form Awami politics.

    # ZIAUR RAHMAN became the first elected president of Bangladesh on 19 june 1978 through direct election.

    # on 01 september 1978, President Shaheed ZIAUR RAHMAN formed the Bangladesh Nationalist party-BNP, whose main concern was Bangladeshi nationalism. He present the first national identification ‘Bangladesh’ identy of all citizens on the basis of languages, culture, religion, caste and all other things of Bangla-non-Bangla, santal, chakma, Munipuri, khasia etc of the people of Bangladesh and the “Bangladeshi nationalism” is reinstated in the constitution by honoring the hopes and aspiration of the people-where our anthropological identy remains.

    # He established the independence of judiciary or the rule of law and the people of the press-return the freedom of the press and the fundamental rights. He formed ‘Bangladesh Press institute and ‘bangladesh Press Council’ first.

    #President Shaheed Ziaur rahman established the foundation of the first National Press Club and allocated 22 bighas of land for journalists at mirpur.

    # He introduced low-level irrigation system to bring revolution in agriculture and ‘canal and re-start’ programs.Arranged for distribution of electricity and fertilizer on the farm.

    # He established new industries like jute industry, textile mill, paper mill, fertilizer factory, sugar mill etc and took the initiative of establishing.

    # President Shaheed ZIAUR RAHMAN introduced the mass education program, in a short time, 40 million people were recruited and revolutionized mass education. He constituted Bangladesh National Cadet  corps (BNCC). Madrasah included science, English, sociology in syllabus to make education timely.

    # He increased the scope for treatment of rural people by conducting 2700 rural doctors in the field of treatment. He encouraged the establishment of diabetic hospital and established the Cholera Hospital in mohakhali. Also established the heart institute and hospital, children’s hospital and muktijoddha complex.

    # He helped to stop theft and robbery and give guarantee to normal death, help in peace and order and formed the Village Defense Force (VDP) to take part in rural development.

    #He involved the rural level people in the local administration system and development activities and introduced ‘Self-development village government system’.

    # In order to improve production and prosperity in the country, build thousands of miles of roads to improve the communication system.

    #President Shaheed ZIAUR RAHMAN established the first garment industry as a export-oriented industry and unveiled the new possibilities of the economy.

    # President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman was the first to start workforce export abroad in 1976 with the employment of only 8500 people in six countries of the Middle East.

    # Being a riverine country, he established the ‘River Research Institute’.

    # He was the first to provide trawler with government assistance and to make fishing in the sea and export it abroad. As aresult,  the field of foreign exchange and employment generation has been created today.

    # He was the first to provide government loans to the poor and poor people of the country.

    # In the development of the country, he played a key role in the development of weavers and weed cottage industries.

    # Young people can play a role in the development of the country and not go to astray, so he formed the first ‘Ministry of Youth Development.

    # He was the first to constitute ‘Ministry of Woman Affairs’ and contributed to increase the women’s seat in national seats and increase women quota in the job.

    # He established the first ‘Religion Ministry’ for the unity of the people of the country, in the peace and stability of the state.

    # In order to advance the technology of modernization of the country, he created the first ‘Ministry of Science and Tecnology’.

    # During his time, colour transmission was introduced in the country’s first BTV and the colour lab was established in the FDC. Ziaur Rahman first introduced the idea of creating a state-of-the art flim. He was allotted the first land for setting up the FDC in Gazipur. He organized artists, writers and poets abroad to promote international culture.

    # He established the ‘Children’s park’ in the end of the seventies for the development and entertainment of children. Established “Children’s Academy” for the development and training of children and to create the future of children in their own culture, Bangladesh television created the ‘New Twenty’ competition.

    # He brought the Ekushey Book Fair under the Bangla Academy and since then Ekushey Book Fair has been celebrated stateally.

    # Ziaur Rahman introduced the Swadhinata Medal, Ekushey padak, National Film Award for his contribution to respective fields.

    # Ziaur Rahman gave the citizenship of poet kazi Nazrul Islam in his own right and declared in 1976 as a national poet. After death of the poet, he took his dead body and buried it beside the Dhaka University’s Central Jame Mosque and he took his dead body to the grave. Also the road from Farmgate to Shahbagh has been named ‘Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue’.


    # He brought the world’s leading freedom fighter Mohamed Ali to Bangladesh, and to give honorable ‘citizenship’.

    # With the contribution of President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, only four years after the membership of the United Nations, got a ‘Security Council membership’ against Japan.

    # Inclusion of Bangladesh in the ‘three member Al-Quds Committee’ for the benefit of President Ziaur Rahman.

    # He took the initiative to established the ‘SAARC’ for the overall development of the south asian region.

    # Also President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, following the independent foreign policy, Decentralization of power, national development through co-operatives, formation of strong armed forces, evaluation and rehabilation of freedom fighters, literary culture and the contribution of sports development and patronage is undeniable. He brought good self-sufficiency in food by increasing the production and for the sake of development, the beggar’s hand turned into a worker’s hand.

    President Shahid ZIAUR RAHMAN presented the “19-point” in the overall development of the country-this is the certificate of the liberation of the people of this country. Whatever development or progress there has been in the country today, it seems that the “19-point” manifestation. President Shahid Ziaur Rahman played a unique role in forming a modern liberal democratic state. Having formed an integrated society by cutting political turmoil. Industrialization, education, production………….In almost all cases, President Shahid Ziaur Rahman signed a successful success and turned the scourge of “bottomless basket” into a potentially emerging state and the developing countries could manage the country on the road to overall development.

    Therefore, it must be acknowledged that the establishment of the country-President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman-laid the foundation for democracy and development.
