Prasenjit Das, Editor in Chief India – Responding promptly to the Odisha students of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Agartala who alleged torture in the hands of locals there recently, the Odisha Government today deputed a high level team of Higher Education Department to look into the matter.
Informing on the step to media at the State Secretariate here today, Odisha Higher Education Secretary Bishnupada Sethi said Director Higher Education B Parmeswaran and Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University Vice Chancellor Prof Radha Madhab Dash will head the team deputed to Agartala.
Earlier in the day, Odisha DGP RP Sharma talked to his counterpart in Tripura over phone and told him to make necessary arrangements to ensure safety and security of Odia students there.
The torture on Odia students in Tripra came to light yesterday, after around 90 students of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan in Agartala along with 10 teachers posted a video on the internet.
In the video they were seen narrating about their ordeal and requesting for help. As per their allegation a good number of Odia students including girls were attacked by a group of classmates a few days back for not participating in a strike during Ganesh Puja celebrations. Though they took the matter to the notice of the institute’s authority it took no action on the accused.
