Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed as the chief guest is handing over the crest of ‘HSBC Export Excellence Award’ to SM Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman Vice-Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd. at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden on Saturday.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL), a sister concern of the country’s electronics giant Walton Group, has been honoured with the ‘HSBC Export Excellence Award 2018’. Walton received the award in the category of ‘Excellence in Import Substitution’ for reducing or substituting imports to a value of US$10 million or more.
Attending the function as the chief guest, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on handed over the award to SM Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd. at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden on Saturday (September 22) while Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir was present as special guest.
The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) award takes into consideration the companies' corporate social responsibility practices, regulatory compliance, sustainable business practices, commitment and contribution to the local economy.
Responding to the award, SM Shamsul Alam said: Walton has been saving huge amount of foreign currency by producing technology products in the country along with working to spread ‘Made in Bangladesh’ products to international market.
He said that after entering the international market of Asia, Middle East and Africa, Walton is targeting the top electronics market around the world including Europe, America and Australia. To achieve the target, the International Marketing Department of Walton has been strengthened with employment of marketing specialists who are well experienced in international market. Besides, more emphasized given in research and development and quality control with inclusion of state-of-the art technology and machineries.
He said, earlier in July this year, Walton also achieved 'National Environment Award' under the 'Conservation of Environment and Pollution Control' category which was handed over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2018’ at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in city.
Later on, September 23, WHIL has also been honoured with ‘Bangladesh Master Brand Awards-2018’ for its outstanding contribution to the boom of local electrical, electronics, automobile, home and kitchen appliances sector as the pioneer manufacturer. CMO-Asia, an international marketing and brand related research institute, gave away the award to the local electronics giant at a programme on “The Golden Globe Tigers-2018 Bangladesh Edition” at a local hotel in the capital. Walton also bagged many other international awards and recognitions for its contribution in this industry.
HSBC has been presenting the awards from 2010 to recognise and honour exporters in the country for their contribution to the growth of the national economy. This year, six industrial organizations, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd, DBL Group, Urmi Group, Etafil Accessories, Western Marine Shipyard, and Mazen (Bangladesh) Industries Ltd, received the prestigious awards. Walton Hi-Tech Industries won the award in ‘Excellence in Import Substitution’ category, which has been included this year.
